Basilica di San Miniato
This is the view from the steps of Basilica di San Miniato al Monte (Basilica of St Minias on the Mountain). It is perched on the highest hill in Florence and is a breathtaking structure itself with the view to top it off. The Basilica is named after St. Minas one of my favorite saints. St. Minas was an Armenian prince who became a hermit, he was later labeled a christian and order 'put to the beasts' by the Emperor. When the beast refused to maul him he was beheaded. It is said he picked up his head and walked up the mountain and stopped where the present day Basilica stands.
This is a must see in Florence, I recommend taking a cab to the top and then walking down as there are several open views a few flower and fruit gardens and the persistent view of the 500 year old skyline of Florence.
